Mr. Howell joined the firm in 2011, and focuses his practice on advising and working with charter schools in the State of Utah.  Mr. Howell also assists with general litigation needs at the firm.

Mr. Howell began his practice at a large Salt Lake City law firm, where he worked on numerous general litigation issues, including construction, business, and employment litigation.  While there, he became intimately familiar with Utah Code Annotated 53A-1a-501et seq., which is commonly known as the Utah Charter Schools Act.  Mr. Howell works closely with the Utah Charter Network, where he assists Utah charter schools with issues related to corporate governance, compliance with State law, regulatory matters, construction and lease agreements, and other matters affecting Utah charter schools.

Mr. Howell received his law degree from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University.  While in law school, Mr. Howell was nationally recognized for his oral advocacy skills, winning moot court competitions at BYU, in Washington D.C., and culminating in winning the ABA NAAC National Championship in Chicago, Illinois.

Mr. Howell is co-founder and general counsel to the Wasatch Area Freeride Trails Association, Inc., a Utah non-profit corporation that promotes the sport of downhill and freeride mountain biking in the Wasatch.  In his spare time, Mr. Howell enjoys mountain biking, skiing, and spending time in the outdoors.
